Google Play screenshot sizes

Play works differently from the App Store. There is no single required resolution — there are constraints, and the one that trips people up isn’t a size at all. Use 1080 × 1920 for phone shots and you satisfy all of them.

The rule that gets people

“The maximum dimension of your screenshot can’t be more than twice as long as the minimum dimension.”

Modern Android phones are taller than 2:1. A raw capture from a 20:9 handset is 1080 × 2400, and 2400 is more than twice 1080 — so Play refuses it even though both sides sit comfortably inside the 320–3840 px range. This is why “I just uploaded my phone screenshot” fails, and it is the single most common Play asset rejection.

Crop or compose to 9:16 — 1080 × 1920 — and the problem disappears. Composing the shot rather than cropping it is the better move anyway: you get room for the device, a background, and a caption instead of throwing away a quarter of the screen.

Everything else in the listing

AssetSizeFormatNotes
App icon512 × 512 px32-bit PNG (with alpha)Max 1024 KB. The one asset that wants an alpha channel.
Feature graphic1024 × 500 pxJPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)Exact dimensions, not a minimum. Required for the listing.
Large-screen shots1080–7680 px per sideJPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)Minimum of 4 required for tablet/large-screen listings.
Wear OS shots≥ 384 × 384 pxJPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)1:1 aspect ratio.

Note the alpha-channel trap: the icon is the one asset that must carry an alpha channel, and screenshots and the feature graphic must not. Exporting everything from one template with one setting is how a listing ends up half-rejected.

Questions that come up

What size should Google Play screenshots be?
Google does not publish a single required size the way Apple does — it publishes constraints. Each screenshot must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel, between 320 px and 3840 px on every side, and its longest side must be no more than twice its shortest side. For phones the aspect ratio is 9:16 portrait or 16:9 landscape, which makes 1080 × 1920 the practical answer: it satisfies every constraint and is sharp at Play Store thumbnail size. You may upload up to 8 per device type.
What is the Google Play feature graphic size?
Exactly 1024 × 500 pixels, as a JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel. This is a fixed size rather than a minimum, and the feature graphic is required for the store listing — it is what Play shows at the top of your listing and uses in promotional placements.
Why was my Play Store screenshot rejected for its dimensions?
Almost always the 2:1 rule. Google states that the maximum dimension of your screenshot can't be more than twice as long as the minimum dimension, so a very tall or very wide image fails even when both sides sit inside the 320–3840 px range. A 1080 × 2400 capture from a modern 20:9 Android phone is a common offender: 2400 is more than twice 1080, so it is refused. Crop or pad it to 9:16 — 1080 × 1920 — before uploading. The other frequent cause is an alpha channel: screenshots must have none, even though the app icon must have one.
Do I need separate tablet screenshots for Google Play?
If you want your listing to reach large-screen devices, yes. Google requires a minimum of 4 screenshots for large-screen form factors, sized 1080–7680 px per side at a 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait aspect ratio. Unlike Apple, Google does not scale a phone set up to fill tablet slots, and large-screen quality now feeds Play's own device-suitability signals.

Fill the slots with a 3D render

Knowing the constraints is the easy part. Drop your Android capture onto a real 3D Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, angle it, set a background, and export at 9:16 — free, no signup, no watermark, and your screenshot never leaves the browser.
